Zurlinden LLC

Zurlinden LLC was founded in 2015 in Monterey, CA to build custom 911s. Our skills, components, technology, and ideas are ultimately put to task, forging a car of great performance, usability, and beauty.

Founder Marc Zurlinden believes that the relationship of form and function can live harmoniously by creating restorations with designs that preserve and enhance the unique character and mystique of the car’s soul.

The company’s mantra is quality without excuses. Founded on the principals of “Design-Develop-Drive,” Zurlinden considers everything and accepts nothing but engineering excellence. They “idea it” then “make it, abuse it, improve it, then prove it.” The end product is their client’s dream car!

About the founder

Marc Zurlinden’s passion for Porsche and particularly 911 models began at eight years old when his father brought home his first 911. Marc practically lived in his father’s garage, first working on his bicycles, and later helping his father with his family cars and numerous race cars. His love for design, engineering, and fabrication started with making modifications and special parts for his bicycles, which later grew into an obsession for cars.

Since 1995, Marc has worked at Salinas-based Pro Pack as a designer and engineer of highly sophisticated packaging automation and robotic machinery. But his passion for cars continued to grow. In 2003, he bought his first 911. It was a total restoration project and it turned out beautifully.

He took on his first client project in 2005, building a 100% authentic re-creation of the 1968 Trans-Am, under 2-liter champion Porsche 911 of Tony Adamowicz. He has since built numerous, ultra-custom 911s for various clients.

In 2015, Marc had decided to bring his passion full-time to the world by opening Zurlinden LLC. His creative personalization ensures that each machine can be as sportingly focused, luxuriously flamboyant, or as simple and understated as each client desires. Every restored and modified machine will represent and reflect the unique tastes and perspectives of its owner whether targeted for regular use on the road or ultimate performance on road and track.

“Building a custom 911 has been a dream of mine for a long time, but building the car myself was out of the question. Marc was a partner all the way through the process. Like any good architect, he helped me think through the goals and the design, asking good questions about how I would actually use the car and what would make it special to me. Like any good engineer, Marc helped me think through tradeoffs in performance, cost, and time, keeping me involved in decisions all along the way.

The progress photos I received weekly were the highlight of my week and kept me engaged in the build, even from long distance.

Marc found the right donor car and built me a spectacular car.

I chose to work with Marc because he was thoughtful, accessible, flexible, and clearly had major league experience designing and building on a 911 platform.”

“Marc Zurlinden has the ability of translating dreams and visions into reality. His attention to every detail compare to the making of the some of the finest and most complex Swiss watches. He is a master of automotive craftsmanship, and has my confidence and trust when working on some of the most rare and exotic sports cars known to man.”

Lawrence H. Monterey, CA

“Marc built a Viper Green ’73 RSR look-a-like for me and I could not be happier. The quality and detail of the work was beyond my expectations and working with Marc was a real pleasure—he is not only the builder but he becomes your friend during the build process. My car is a knockout no matter where I go. At Cars & Coffee or PCA events my car is always a standout and the number of compliments is endless.”
